Oakwood Village Fire Department Says Goodbye Beloved Fire Dog, Their ‘Goodest Boy’

Oakwood Village, Ohio – Days ago, the Oakwood Village Fire Department said good-bye to their beloved fire dog, Forrest, who joined their department in October 2016. The agency shared the news with social media followers in a heartfelt post, describing how the dog with separation anxiety became part of their firefighting family.

October 17th 2016, The Oakwood Village Fire Department welcomed a 4 yr old Grey Pit with separation anxiety and a problem shitting inside…..Forrest from Muttley Crue joined 60 misfit firefighters with hopes that there was almost always someone around. He fit. Slowly he got used to the sounds and the trucks and the random collection of guys at any given time. He became a firehouse dog.

Describing Forrest’s quirks and attributes, and why he was loved by everyone at the firehouse.

He bugged us in the middle of the night, ate like a king, smelled like a zoo, and could eventually sleep through anything. He bonded to a handful of us and knew who his suckers were. He dodged trucks and occasionally got left in an empty station with all the doors open, he stayed like a good boy. He was a good dog, he wasn’t always the goodest boy, sometimes he was an asshole, but he was “Our Asshole.” That’s pretty much every fireman.

And the final goodbye, in their words:

Today we had to say goodbye to “our asshole.” Time caught up. The text came out that he wasn’t doing well and those of us that were his suckers came in, off duty to be with him one more time. We spent time with him one at a time, holding him and letting him know we were there. The decision was made and 7 of us loaded him into the Fire Engine and gave him one last ride to the Emergency vet. He passed with 7 grown men crying in the room, all with a hand on him. No shame. We should all be so lucky to have a room full of people who gave a shit. 7 assholes saying goodbye to today’s goodest boy. Thanks for letting us be your family, Forrest.
