Orangeburg, South Carolina – A South Carolina man who admitted to burning a puppy in a rum fueled fire could face up to seven years in prison. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of South Carolina details how 29-year-old Desmond Levon Brown killed the puppy, and his admission of guilt:
Deputies discovered the deceased puppy in a wooded area near the incident location. Federal law enforcement obtained the Facebook video, which showed Brown holding the puppy above the fire, dropping it into the fire, and repeatedly kicking the puppy into the fire, burning it alive. Further evidence showed that the fire, which was started by Brown’s associate, was made using a brand of rum that was imported from the Caribbean and bottled in Kentucky. After his arrest, Brown was recorded on jail calls admitting to burning the puppy.
According to the April 16 news release, Brown pleaded guilty to animal crushing, which includes burning, under the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act (PACT Act). This is the first known PACT Act Conviction in South Carolina.
U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling for the District of South Carolina said:
“Brown’s gruesome torture of a puppy was heinous. He showed no mercy in his crime, and we look forward to his sentencing. Our office will lead the fight to protect the welfare of animals in South Carolina.”
In addition to prison time, Brown also faces a fine of up to $250,000, restitution, and three years of supervision to follow the term of imprisonment. United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis accepted the guilty plea and will sentence Brown after receiving and reviewing a sentencing report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.

Laws against cruelty like this POS who tortured this puppy to death should stop them in their tracks, not allowing them to get away with this crap. Also, torture goes on with farm animals when they don’t know they are being video-taped or a camera is taking pictures of them hurting, beating, sexually abusing, etc, farm animals that can’t get aways either. This poor puppy is a victim because they can’t fight back or get away from the abuser. Farm animals can’t either. Video’s of animal abuse are usually taken by undercover people and those who are guilty want them stopped. We need more of the “good people” reporting those who abuse animals, names, pictures, ID’s, companies, etc. Whomever is the abuser must be exposed in any and all ways, and the same treatment given to them in return. All animals deserve respect, compassion, & love even if you don’t think of all the species as your favorite, they all deserve our help, including animals, birds, reptiles, ocean life, etc, even insects & bugs contribute to our lives and need our help. This man is a menace to society, he will torture and kill anything or person without regard. He needs to be committed permanently. There is no rehabilitation that can fix this level of violence and cruelty. I’m physically ill from the thought of what that dog went through and without intervention from the other criminal present. He needs to be charged as well. If I ever heard or saw something like that, I would be in jail after I stopped the situation cuz it would not have ended well.

Sexually exploiting animals
The law applies to living non-human mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
These acts are now federal crimes when they occur:
On federal property
Within the special maritime or territorial jurisdiction of the United States
In or affecting interstate or foreign commerce
It is these juries, judges and courts that let these criminals off with just a slap on the wrist if even that. EVERY case of cruelty to animals of any kind needs to be prosecuted under the PACT Act.
The torturous death of ANY animal needs to start being treated like the same kind of death of a human being. The problem is the damn judges and courts don’t consider animals on the same level as people, which is bullshit.
