Nationwide – Right now, several pets belonging to deployed U.S. military members urgently need temporary homes through the Dogs on Deployment Hero Pet Boarding Network.
When service members are called away for deployment, training, or other assignments, many don’t have family nearby who can care for their pets. Without help, some military families are forced to consider surrendering their animals to shelters.
That’s where volunteer DoD Boarders step in.
Through the nonprofit Dogs on Deployment, volunteers temporarily foster pets while their owners are away serving the country. The goal is simple but powerful: keep military pets safe and loved until they can be reunited with their families.
Right now, the organization says multiple pets are urgently in need of boarders.

If you’re able to help:
• You can sign up to become a volunteer boarder through the Hero Pet Boarding Network.
• If you can’t foster, sharing this opportunity can help these pets find safe homes.
No service member should have to choose between serving their country and keeping their pet.

well I’m on board.. just getting all the ducks in a line..I’ve been rescuing for 50 years starting in the 70s in Miami, FL. when I adopted my first Doberman. I’ve rescued , found on the streets and taken as owner surrender. I specialize in working dogs and my breed is the Doberman of which I adopted 6. I’ve rehabbed 2 with vestibular syndrome and found a shepherd puppy who years later developed Addison disease. I also trained that same shepherd as a SAR dog. More later.
COME ON ‘GOOD PEOPLE’ FOSTER THESE BEAUTIFUL GOD GIVEN COMPANIONS!!
Come on everyone who loves animals! Step up and help these poor people to care for their pets!!! They’ll need all the care and support they can get
I have been a DoD boarder since 2013, hosting dogs for nine service members while they fulfill military obligations. It’s very rewarding.
This month DoD went to a new platform, and the system is experiencing some growing pains.
If you can help, visit the web site choose the Sign Up To Be A Boarder option. Then fill in the spaces as shown and submit your form. Once registered you may contact the pet’s owner to arrange a visit. This will point you to a site listing service members with pets looking for temporary homes.
No money changes hands for this boarding; the service member is responsible for food and any vet costs while they are deployed. It’s a wonderful way to support our troops.
That’s awesome Ron! Thanks so much for the information. Just imagining myself in the place of our soldiers who face this issue..I FEEL that dread..the peace of mind you and the other foster families give is REAL. I am so grateful for our tiny community of advocates..I just wish there were more of us! I am also a foster although I’m not registered on this platform, I do have 2 soldiers who allow me to keep their babies company when it’s needed..I’ll be doing it again in August..you’re so right about it being rewarding.
