Bellport, New York – A Bellport man is facing animal cruelty charges following the discovery of a neglected, senior dog at his home. According to a Wednesday release from the Suffolk County SPCA, Cecilio D. Matthews, 50, of Bellport, has been charged with one misdemeanor and one violation counts of animal cruelty under the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law and four misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty under the Suffolk County Code.
Matthews was charged for neglecting his 10-year-old dog, Seven, was found to be “underweight, infested with flies, and exhibited open wounds to his ears and neck.” Seven was removed from this neglectful situation and is receiving the necessary medical treatment at a local animal shelter.
Matthews is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on September 11, 2026.
