Heartbreak For Dog Sitting At Shelter For Over 500 Days

This handsome, young dog has spent more than 500 days at a Washington animal shelter because nobody seems to want him.

Update 7/18/2023: Butter was adopted this week! Thanks to everyone who shared his story.

Kennewick, WA – A handsome dog named Butter has been sitting at an animal shelter in Kennewick, Washington, for more than 500 days and the sad situation is breaking hearts. Butter is an intelligent, three-year-old Labrador retriever mix who loves to play with squeaky toys.

But youth, good looks, intelligence, and a sweet demeanor have not been enough for this overlooked dog to find a family. For reasons unknown, he continues to be overlooked and passed by in his lonely kennel run at the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.

Just this week, a family came to meet Butter…but they left without him because he was not the “right fit” for their home.

So Butter continues his lonesome waiting game…hoping that someone, someday, might find him worthy of their love.

Butter’s homelessness is not for a lack of trying. Videos have been made sharing his plight, and thousands of people have watched them…expressing sadness and heartbreak for his lonely existence. But nobody has decided that he is the dog that they want in their home.

  1. I would love him. He needs a home. Is he housebroken and can he be flown to the Reno Nevada area. It’s a shame no one wants him. Those big dogs don’t live long. I could give him a great home and he would have a smaller dog to play with. wish I lived closer. Is he good with cats and other dogs. He deserves a home. Can he be fostered? Let me know 775 345- 5589 He’s beautiful. Why hasn’t he been adopted?
