Jersey City, New Jersey – An employee of the Liberty Harbor Marina is accused of killing a Canada goose in front of its mate. According to Pad Paws Animal Rescue, the man used his bare hands to kill the goose, who was near his mate and their new family of ducklings.
In a social media post, the rescue group said:
We are heartbroken to share a Liberty Harbor Marina worker murdered a male goose today with his bare hands. The new father of 3 goslings (born yesterday) was with his mate when the worker came too close to the babies. Witnesses watched the worker (see photo of the man in blue on a bulldozer) provoke the goose and then killed him right there in the parking lot and in front of his mate.

The troubling incident happened on May 6 on the Jersey City side of the Morris Canal. A witness stated the male goose “got into a confrontation with a construction worker” and was found dead, apparently by strangulation, a short time later.
The killing is under investigation. “The City’s Division of Animal Care and Control is actively involved, and a Jersey City Humane Law Enforcement Officer is investigating the incident,” said Nathaniel Styer, communications director of Jersey City. “Additionally, the matter has been referred to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.”
