Extremely ‘Fat’ Cat Taken To Veterinarian To Be Euthanized – But She Is Still Alive And Needs A Home

Oakland, NJ – Recently, an “extremely” fat cat was taken to a veterinarian by her owner who wanted the cat to be euthanized. But the cat, named Lucy, is still alive and she is in need of a home!

On Thursday, the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge shared Lucy’s photos, writing:

This chubby 10 year old girl was brought to a local animal hospital to be euthanized.
Lucy is extremely overweight & is on a strict weight management diet to help shed some of this extra weight.

According to the animal welfare agency, Lucy loves watching birds, being around people, and being petted on her head.

The organization said:

Lucy would be an amazing companion to a lowkey home who is able to dedicate the time & attention to her that she deserves! Because of her spunky personality, Lucy must be the only pet in the household & cannot be placed with small children.

It is not clear if Lucy’s former owner wanted her euthanized because of her weight, her age, or for some other reason. But she does need a new home, with someone who will love and care for her for the rest of her life.

You can find Lucy’s biography at this link to the shelter’s website. Please make all inquiries about this cat directly to the animal welfare agency. Animal Victory is NOT the point of contact and has no affiliation with the shelter.

  1. people are real slime bags. why would you euthanize a beautiful cat because she is a fatty. maybe her owner should look in the mirror and euthanize herself. this cat didn’t get this way on her own. she obviously had an irresponsible dimwit for a care giver. hope she enjoys her new life.

  2. Please, let us all know the name of this despicable piece of trash who would kill an animal because they are over weight. Not the cat’s fault, lets see if the owner is fat and then pass judgement on them. We need to let people know who these despicable people are, put them to shame.

    • My suggestion is that the owner should be punished by being charged a hefty financial fine for neglecting/abusing this innocent cat causing it to get I’ll and over weight. I bet the cat has diabetes and other organ damage from obesity!

  5. What the heck is wrong with this society?? An innocent creature becomes inconvenient and they want to get rid of it!! Time to extinguish some of these humans that are a waste of the oxygen on this planet. If it were not for me having taken in so many that have been dropped off here, I would definitely take her. She is gorgeous! I hope that whoever abandoned this baby is abandoned by anyone that knows her/him and she/he will find out what this poor baby is going through.

    • She’s 15#. Yeah, a bit over-weight, but I’ve seen heavier cats on the Wisconsin Humane Society’s web-page!

    • This was never more apparent than after the Covid crisis when so called pet lovers abandoned their pets because they became too much trouble/ expensive/ etc ,and were adopted in the first place only to fill in a loneliness hole during the crisis and now they are dispensible just apparently like this poor cat and that is despicable treatment of your pet/friend. Thankfully this animal shelter thought otherwise and saved this not so little guy and hopefully this has a nice outcome for this cat and some REAL pet lover adopts her

  8. It kills me to euthanize a pet when I know it’s right because they are suffering…what kind of cold hearted low life euthanizes a healthy pet because she allowed the poor cat to get fat. Some humans are just deserving of bad karma.

  10. The cat didn’t get fat all by herself. This vile woman was feeding her to obesity. Then she wants her killed. Sick.

    • This makes me hate members of the so called human race even more than I already do. This bitch is the one that needs to be euthanized!
