Tasmania, Australia – On Wednesday, Australia’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment Marine Conservation Program said that an estimated 230 whales were stranded on Ocean Beach, along Tasmania’s West Coast. Officials believe that about half of the whales, presumed to be pilot whales, are deceased.
According to the agency, a team from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania Marine Conservation Program (MCP) is assembling whale rescue gear and heading to the area. The team will pair up with staff from the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Tasmanian Police at Strahan. An assessment of the situation will be made by Marine wildlife experts who will determine the appropriate response.
According to the release, if the general public’s assistance is needed, a request will be put out through “various avenues.” The release outlines the complexity of the situation because the whales are protected:
Whales are a protected species, even once deceased, and it is an offence to interfere with a carcass.
Exactly two years ago, the worst whale stranding in Australia took place in the same area. 470 long-finned pilot whales got stranded on sandbars in the same area; teams were able to rescue 111 of the whales, but the majority perished.
Pilot whales are the species most susceptible to mass strandings.
This is climate change and animals are losing their bearings because of the heat and cold , food migration , currents, etc. This is the summary of what many people try to explain. I read and watch much about animal behavior in every environment and climate change confuses their behavior, as well their behavior regarding their loss of habitats. People are killing them and at the end of the chain, us. People have no sentiments;, but humans do everything possible to save and avoid pain and suffering. The world needs more humanity. This world is getting “colder” by the minute, given peoples non-empathic way of addressing suffering. Every heartbeat is a life that feels and thinks and we don’t own them to do as we please. Stop the evolution of climate change with drastic measures. Many of us will not be alive to see the distraction of much more, but ai can tell you that every time I see and read about forest destruction, wild fires, stranded and abandoned animals, tortured animals, temperatures rising, lack of food, etc,………this is a chain reaction waiting to explode. It MUST BE STOPPED, but for that, governments, politicians, must get their hands dirty and stop worrying about money because they will not take that money with them to their tomb; they will be leaving behind children and grandchildren to suffer the pain their predecessors left them in their “will”…….willingly!
