Elderly Woman Killed By Alligator While Trying To Save Her Dog

St. Lucie County, FL – An elderly woman who was walking her dog was killed by a large alligator on Monday afternoon. According to sources, the 85-year-old woman was walking her dog in the 55-plus living community, Spanish Lakes Fairways, when the alligator grabbed her dog.

While trying to save her dog from the attack, the alligator turns its sights on the woman, killing her in what is described as a “rare” attack.

According to state wildlife officials, a nuisance alligator trapper was dispatched to the scene to capture the gator. Trapper Robert Lilly said that it “was a fight” to capture the alligator, who measured between 11 and 12 feet in length.

The dog the woman was trying to save survived the attack; the woman’s name has not yet been released.

People concerned about a “nuisance” alligator should call the FWC’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
