Tacoma, Washington – Last Thursday, dozens of frightened, malnourished cats and kittens were discovered in an abandoned sailboat in the water off Owens Beach in Tacoma, Washington. According to the Tacoma Police Department, the felines were living in “unsafe conditions.”
The discovery was made after someone reported the boat to the authorities, who proceeded to obtain a search warrant and perform a welfare check.

Animal control officers worked side-by-side with the police Marine Services Unit officers to remove most of the cats, but some were too frightened to be captured. As reported by King 5 News, there are still approximately 10 cats on the boat.

Crates with food and water were left on the vessel with the hope that the cats will be lured from hiding.
The rescued cats have been taken in by Tacoma Humane. There have been no arrests or charges and the investigation into this unusual situation remains ongoing.
