Saratoga Springs, NY – A horse who was rescued from an icy pond earlier this year has teamed up with the police department who helped save his life. Sly fell through the ice in February and was trapped – members of the Saratoga Springs Police Department rescued him, and after being saved, the horse underwent special training to embark on a new journey to help the community.
The department welcomed Sly to its Mounted Unit on June 25. In a release, the department said:
Since that day, he has been in training with his owner, Allison Ernst, who has generously partnered with the department to prepare Sly for a new role in public service.
Thanks to her dedication and community spirit, Sly will now serve alongside the very officers who helped save his life—all at no cost to the department.

The department thanked those involved with enhancing their Mounted Unit:
The growth and success of our Mounted Unit would not be possible without the generosity and support of community partners like Allison Ernst, Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, and Impressions of Saratoga. Their commitment ensures the ongoing care, training, and outfitting of our equine officers.
