Deaf Senior Cat Saved After Owners Surrendered Her To Shelter

Bridgeton, New Jersey – A deaf, senior cat who was surrendered to a shelter and scheduled for euthanasia has been given a new lease on life thanks to the Uncle Neil’s Home sanctuary.

Two days ago, the sanctuary posted a heartwarming video of the rescued cat, Smiley, to their TikTok account, writing:

Smiley was scheduled to be PTS at the shelter where her family left her after 8+ years. The paperwork that they filled out said “I don’t want it” on the line next to “reason for surrender”. We were not going to let her die alone in the shelter, and picked her up before her time-stamp expired. She needed us.

Though Smiley has a myriad of health issues, she is out of harm’s way with people who have vowed to keep her safe for the remainder of her life.

A day after the initial TikTok video was posted, the sanctuary said that Smiley has not stopped purring since she was rescued. She has multiple health problems, but with the help of the sanctuary, and concerned animal lovers, she will receive the care that she needs.

WELCOME HOME, SMILEY! 🐱 Smiley was scheduled to be PTS at the shelter where her family left her after 8+ years. The paperwork that they filled out said “I don’t want it” on the line next to “reason for surrender”. We were not going to let her die alone in the shelter, and picked her up before her time-stamp expired. She needed us. Smiley is nine years old with some medical issues like anemia, dehydration, possible thyroid issues, and an ear infection that we’re investigating, plus, she is deaf. More importantly, she is the sweetest, most gentle, innocent, loving, snuggly girl, and there is no doubt that she’s been through a lot that we’ll never know about. She is emaciated and looks so much older than she is. We are getting her to the vet and will let you know as soon as we know what’s going on. We’re going to take care of her. The reason that we are able to make these quick rescue decisions behind the scenes without thinking twice is because we have the loving, unwavering support of our Herd Members who support our rescue work on a monthly basis. If you believe in our mission and want to help us continue to save lives, you can do so for *as little as $5/month* (comes with perks!) 🔗 LINK TO JOIN: https://www.uncleneilshome.org/how-to-help/donate/ We are so very grateful for you love and support and hope that you will Join Our Herd for the animals. Welcome home, Smiley. We ADORE you 🧡

  1. Thank you to these wonderful people for taking care of Smiley. Can’t say the same for the disgraceful former owners who sound like awful, heartless people. Poor Smiley!!!!!
