Cruise Ship Arrives To New York Port With Dead, Endangered Whale Across Bow

New York – On Saturday, an MSC Cruise ship pulled into a New York port with a deceased 44-foot whale draped over its bow. According to sources, the whale has been identified as an endangered sei whale.

The endangered whale was spotted on the bow of the MSC Meraviglia when it docked at the Port of Brooklyn. In a statement, a spokesperson for the cruise line said, “We immediately notified the relevant authorities, who are now conducting an examination of the whale.” Adding that they are, “deeply saddened by the loss of any marine life.”

The whale’s body was transported to New Jersey and a necropsy was performed on Tuesday to determine if the whale died from being struck by the ship, or if it was already dead when it was scooped onto the bow.

Sei whales typically reside in deep offshore waters; they can grow up to 64 feet in length.

  1. If whale was already dead, his body would’ve already sunk to bottom, if he was swimming near surface & struck by ship, he was either simply caught off-guard by not recognizing human-caused danger or may’ve been sick or injured. Can necropsy him to see if was sick from a belly full of plastic debris.
