San Francisco, California – Residents near the Mission Delores area of San Francisco are mourning the death of a nine-year-old cat named KitKat who was allegedly killed this week by a self-driving Waymo car. As reported by Yahoo News, an anonymous 311 call report details what happened the night that KitKat died:
“The Waymo hit the liquor store’s cat that was sitting on the sidewalk next to the transit lane. Killed the neighborhood’s baby. The Waymo did not slow down, swerve, or even try to avoid the cat in any way. Waymo should not be on the street if they can’t spot small animals in the dark.”
People who loved KitKat have created a memorial outside of the liquor store, Randa’s Market, where KitKat lived. Mike Zeidan, Randa Market store owner, is touched by the outpouring of love for the slain cat.
It appears that Waymo has not responded to requests for a statement about KitKat’s untimely death.

Those vehicles should have NEVER been approved to be on the roads and highways anywhere., they are dangerous! Additionally, whenever traumatic occurrence such as this occur, the auto maker as well as the NTSB and any other agencies should be held accountable!
The increasing amount of those dangerous vehicles on our roads and highways is getting out of hand and innocent people and animals are becoming victims.
SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!
This won’t be the first animal killed by these insane cars and probably have been many killed. Outlaw these cars!!!!
The driver of that car must be punished!
Self driving either waymo or tesla has been tested. Both fail to see even a child in the fog or light rain. Don’t rely on them. Put a person behind that wheel. But cats need to be confined too. They live longer
I hope they caught it on video somehow, maybe from a security camera. From the transcript of the 311 call, it sounds like Waymo really needs to answer for this. It says the cat was sitting on the sidewalk, next to (not in) the transit lane, and that the car didn’t make any attempt to avoid running over the cat. So, does that mean the Waymo car was driving itself on the sidewalk instead of in the transit lane, or what?! It’s bad enough that the self-driving car either failed to see the cat in its path, or simply wasn’t programmed to make any effort to avoid hitting it, but its even worse if the car was driving itself on a sidewalk it shouldn’t have even been on in the first place.
i agree… who was this car driving for anyways… that person should also be held accountable for it…. self driving cars should be OUTLAWED….. a real flesh n blood person needs behind the wheel… not some A I bullshit….
This proves those Automomous Cars are not safe. Boycott Waymo and Tesla….
Animals can’t hear the electric motors as well as normal car gasoline motors and they get killed all the time.
