Bryce Canyon, Utah – On April 29, a cat miraculously survived a tragic fall that claimed the life of two hikers at Inspiration Point in Utah’s Bryce Canyon National Park. The cat, dubbed Mirage, was with Matthew Nannen and Bailee Crane when they fell 400 feet to their death.
Mirage was in a soft-sided carrier when the couple tumbled to their death. Judah Battista, the chief sanctuary officer for Best Friends Animal Society, said, “Mirage is a miracle cat in that she survived a tragic fall in Bryce Canyon.”
Mirage faired amazingly well given the huge fall; she did fracture some ribs and broke two teeth reports Count on 2 News.
Mirage, 12, is being cared for by Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab. The sanctuary is trying to find extended family of the deceased to see if they can provide her with a home; if no home is available for her, she will be put up for adoption.
The police are still investigating the deadly fall. Anyone with information is asked to call Garfield County Sheriff’s Detectives at 435-676-1126.

She used up at least one of her 9 lives…..sorry, I couldn’t resist…
I am so sad she lost the 2 people who loved her so much they took her with them to hike and see the sites. Very heart braking. I hope that she finds a loving home.
if only humans followed the rules…. There is info in the news that climbed over the railing. Too bad doing something so stupid they took a cat with them who did not make that choice.
Poor baby. So glad she survived, but so sad for her owners!!! What a terrible situation. Hope their family can come forward and care for her.
they should not have climbed over the railing (which they did accordingly to the investigation). At least, humans, when you do such things, make sure that it is only your lives at stake, nobody’s else.
