Austin, Texas – Unwanted kittens are safe after being rescued from freezing temperatures. According to the Austin Police Department, eight caged kittens were abandoned on a sidewalk in late January.
In a social media post on January 27, the authorities said:
Last night, we received a 9-1-1 call about kittens found in a cage on Great Northern Blvd. APD Sergeant Ben Mewis responded and found eight kittens freezing in a cage along a sidewalk with no shelter, food, or water. The Baker 300s (Central West Austin) responded and were able to transport them to Austin Animal Services where they were saved from the freezing weather.
Reminding the public that abandoning animals in the cold is never okay:
We want to remind the public that it is never ok to leave animals outside in freezing weather with no shelter, food, or water, especially babies.

The rescued kittens were taken to the Austin Animal Center for care.
