Boston, MA – A Boston woman was arrested and charged for beating and kicking her service dog. The disturbing situation was captured on surveillance video and revealed that 27-year-old Jasmine Velasquez repeatedly hit her dog with her hands, feet, and a glass bottle.
In court, a prosecutor described the abuse:
“They [officers] were able to see Ms. Velasquez hit the dog with an open right hand one time, hit the dog with a glass bottle 11 times, and kick the dog three times. The dog was screaming when officers arrived.”
As reported by Boston 25 News, the abused dog is identified as Rocky, a 5-year-old Australian cattle dog; the extent of his injuries has not been released. Rocky is currently in the care of the Boston Animal Control.
Velasquez’s four-month-old child is in protective custody. Bail was set at $1,500; Velasquez is due in court in December for a pre-trial hearing.

‘shelters’ offer veru little if any medical to animals-mostly they just dope them up and the dogs languish in kennel prisons with their injuries until it is deemed to ‘humanely euthanize’. Most animal rescues now are inundated with animals. People get cute little puppies, don’t bother with any training, and then dump them when they are tired of a growing untrained dog. age related medical issues. Dogs are sentient beings with hearts and brains. Animal abuse/cruelty laws are

They won’t let a rescue take an animal involved in an unresolved case especially when the owner is the one being charged. Hopefully since any injuries would be considered evidence he will be given any necessary care 🤞
How did this person get a service dog in the first place? Aren’t they vetted? She should never get another one. Make her pay financially for the service dog she abused.

I certainly hope the dog will be placed with someone who needs a service dog and will love and appreciate him. As for Velasquez, she is a threat to any animal, service dog or otherwise, and the court should order that she be banned from every having an animal in her possession. Sickening woman.
I always view the whole concept of service animals, particularly for those who suffer from mental health issues, with great trepidation. There needs to be more oversight and supervision to ensure animals are not being victimized and are properly cared for.
