Palm City, Florida – On Monday, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home in the 1200 block of SW Alligator Street in Palm City where a serious hoarding situation occurred. According to the authorities, upwards of 20 badly neglected border collies were living in the home.
The sheriff’s office described the dismal conditions inside the residence, writing:
The conditions inside the home are extremely concerning. Deputies and animal services officers are required to wear Tyvek protective clothing while entering the residence because of the extensive accumulation of feces, urine-soaked materials, boxes and other debris throughout the interior. The conditions are making the process of locating and safely removing the animals both challenging and time-consuming.
The homeowner, who was not named, has been taken into custody.
Investigators and animal services personnel are continuing to assess the condition of the animals and determine the full scope of the situation.
