Pierce County, Washington – A Tacoma woman is facing nearly a dozen charges following the discovery of 68 cats, alive and dead, in a parked U-Haul truck. According to sources, the grim discovery was made when Tacoma police responded to a Motel 6 on 76th Street for a welfare on November 7.

Officers could hear cats inside the parked moving truck and Naomi Erma Harrison, 39, came out of the motel and told officers that she was responsible for the U-Haul. Inside the vehicle, officers found personal belongings, and dozens of crying cats, drenched in urine, and suffering from starvation.

The police report said, “The remaining cats were agitated, very wet with urine, and stepping on the deceased cats.” A total of 10 cats had died in the vehicle, and the surviving cats went to the Humane Society of Tacoma for care.
Harrison was booked into the Pierce County Corrections Jail on eleven first-degree animal cruelty charges; she could face more. If convicted, she could up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine per first-degree count.
