Columbia Station, Ohio – A four-month-old puppy suffered two broken bones after allegedly being thrown from a third-floor window earlier this month. The pup, dubbed Luna Mae, was rescued by a good Samaritan and rushed to a veterinarian for care.
Thanks to the Berea Animal Rescue, the badly injured puppy was given a new lease on life. Had the rescue agency not taken her under its wing, she would have been humanely euthanized. The rescue group said:
Mercifully, a bystander rushed to her aid and called the police, who took her to the emergency room. It was determined that she was suffering traumatic injuries and two broken legs. Without a shelter to step in, the emergency hospital was prepared to humanely euthanize her.
But today, she is recovering in a foster home, and funds have been donated for her extensive care. On July 13, the rescue group said:
We have reached our goal to help with Luna Mae’s medical expenses which highlights how our community pulls together in times of crisis.
We are consulting with multiple vets and orthopedic surgeons to ensure we are taking the correct course of action for her recovery. Because she is very young and still growing, we are seeking multiple recommendations because we MAY not amputate if the orthopedists recommend keeping the leg while the rest of her bones grow.
As reported by Cleveland.com, details surrounding Luna Mae’s July 6 incident are unclear, and it is unknown if there is a criminal investigation underway. The puppy’s foster family intends to adopt her as soon as she has been medically cleared.
