Winnsboro, Texas – Stormy weather took a deadly toll on a Winnsboro, Texas, equine rescue this week. According to Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge, a lightning strike killed five horses who were standing under a tree on Tuesday.
In a May 19 Facebook post, the rescue described what happened:
HEARTBROKEN AND DEVASTATED
I’ve heard of it happening to cows, but I never thought it would happen to us,
We just had a massive storm roll through
We heard a loud boom
Just like that we lost five beautiful horses to a lightning strike
We are in the process of trying to get each one ready for burial
Please pray for us
Later providing the names of the horses who perished from the strike:
We lost two draft mares, Thelma and Louise, a quarter horse that was pending adoption named Freya, and two Standardbreds we just put up for adoption – Lucy and “Look Don’t Talk”
I’m praying to God that they went quickly and did not suffer at all. I have to figure out the logistics of dealing with this before I can really process my emotions so I’m sorry if I won’t be responding to anybody’s text or calls right now.
Donations can be made to the rescue group on Facebook.
Rest in peace Thelma, Louis, Freya, Lucy and Look Don’t Talk.
