Miami-Dade County, Florida – A man accused of stealing, and abandoning, a dog he was pet sitting has been arrested in Miami-Dade County. According to sources, 28-year-old Andrew Jansen was arrested Saturday at Jackson South Hospital; he had an arrest warrant on felony motor vehicle theft and general theft charges.
Jansen had been hired to care for an 11-year-old husky named Maverick while his owner, Andrew Beckham, a member of the Colorado Air National Guard, was deployed. But during the time Beckham was away, Jansen stopped communicating and eventually left with Beckham’s dog and his car.
The senior dog was later found deceased in Beckham’s stolen car which was left at a Logan Street parking garage in Aurora, Colorado.
Andrew Jansen is expected to be extradited to Colorado.
