Navajo County, Arizona – Someone has been shooting wild horses in the Black Mesa Ranger District and according to a USDA Forest Service news release, more dead horses were recently found. The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests is hopeful that someone will come forward with information about the killings.
In the release, the agency said:
The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests are seeking public assistance as law enforcement investigates the killing of four additional horses on the Black Mesa Ranger District. The latest deaths are in addition to an ongoing investigation into the killing of nine horses last month.
Like the nine prior slain horses, these horses all had bullet wounds. The horses underwent necropsies and were buried.
The U.S. Forest Service urges anyone with information to contact the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 928-524-9908.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the recent horse shootings.
