San Diego, California – Lifeguards with the San Diego Fire Department recently saved a black Labrador retriever mix named Sadie after the dog was swept out to sea in a rip current. Sadie got in trouble after slipping out the door at a home her owners were staying at last week – thanks to an Air tag, the couple was able to track her, reports KPTV News.
Sadie’s owners were tracking her down at the same time that lifeguards were alerted to the frightening situation by surfers who spotted Sadie when she was swept away near a jetty.
Lifeguards Garret Smerdon and Jack Alldredge, with the help of a U.S. Coast Guard boat spent an hour searching the waters for Sadie. Just as hope was nearly lost, Sadie was spotted in the water – the tired pooch was scooped from the water and taken to shore where her worried owners were waiting.

The couple expressed immense gratitude to the rescuers who did not give up hope and continued their search even when the situation seemed dire. Because of their dedication Sadie was saved.
Great job!
