Hill Country, Texas – Multiple horses managed to survive without care for two weeks after the death of their elderly owners. According to sources, two horses did not survive because they were tethered and could not access water.
Hill Country Animal Rescue reached out to the public for help after taking in five of the surviving horses:
Two weeks. That’s how long these horses waited—alone, confused, and without care—after their elderly owner sadly passed away and weren’t found. When authorities finally entered the property, they discovered 16 horses. Two had already died, still tied and unable to reach water. The others had survived.
Sharing the names and conditions of the rescued horses taken in by the agency:
Jonas, Rune, Marvel (who is pregnant), Groot, and Fable. All of them are incredibly sweet and gentle, despite everything they’ve endured.
But one of them—Groot—is in especially dire condition. He is severely underweight, and his teeth are in such poor shape that he likely hasn’t been able to eat properly in a long time. He also has an eye injury that will require surgery. The rest of the group needs full medical evaluations, dental work, farrier care, and steady nutrition.
A total of 16 horses were found on the property…two died and the rescue agency took in five. Kerr County Animal Services is caring for the other horses removed from the property.
The rescue group is hoping for donations to help them care for the horses who just arrived:
Their immediate care costs are overwhelming—feed, hay, medical exams, dental work, farrier visits, and rehabilitative care add up fast.
If you’re able, here’s how your donation can make a direct impact:
🌾 $15 buys hay
🥕 $25 helps with feed
🦶 $75 helps with farrier care
🩺 $150 goes toward essential veterinary treatment

Note: Original social media post from the rescue group states an elderly owner passed away, but news sources say “owners” and a comment from the rescue agency on the Facebook post also references “owners.”
