Irvine, CA – A California dog trainer and his girlfriend are facing animal cruelty charges after nearly a dozen dogs died while in their care. According to the Irvine Police Department, Kwong Chun Sit, 53, and his girlfriend Tingfeng Liu, 23, were arrested on charges of animal cruelty and destruction of evidence on June 19.
Animal Services Unit and patrol officers because investigating the trainer after a dog owner contacted the authorities to report the death of their dog who allegedly “died in its sleep” and had been cremated while in the care of the couple. The authorities said, “In the initial stages of the investigation, it was determined that at least ten dogs had died in the trainer’s care. IPD quickly recovered multiple dogs at different crematoriums.”
Detectives believe Sit worked with pet owners across Southern California, under different company names, including “Happy K9 Academy.”
The Los Angeles Times reports that investigators believe nine of the 10 dogs died on the same day.
The police are hoping to hear from other dog owners who may have had problems with this trainer. In the release, they said,
“If you have been notified of your dog’s sudden passing while in the care of Mr. Sit or have any information related to this case, please contact rsteen@cityofirvine.org.”
