Los Angeles County, CA – A California man was overcome with joy when he found his dog alive days after the Pacific Palisades fire destroyed his home. Casey Colvin was not at home when the evacuation order for his neighborhood came in and for days he desperately tried to return home to see if his dogs survived the blaze.
Cameras were recording when Colvin discovered that Oreo was alive – capturing his tears of joy and elation when he learned that the dog survived against all odds.
As reported by Today, Colvin’s other dog, Tika Tika Tika, also survived. The pup was saved by a firefighter who saw Oreo but was unable to capture him. Thanks to Oreo’s Airtag, Colvin was able track the displaced dog down.
The California wildfires have destroyed thousands of structures and displaced even more people and pets from their homes. At least 24 people have died in the fires, and more are missing. A red flag, high wind warning for the area is in effect Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds are expected to gust upwards of 65 mph during this time.
Agencies from across the nation are stepping up to help during this tragic time. Animal Victory’s Disaster and Abuse Fund has been distributing funds to people and groups in the area who are working feed and care for the animals impacted by this apocalyptic disaster. Thousands of dollars have been distributed, but this is an ongoing situation with no end in sight. If you are interested in making a donation, you can do so at this link.
