Canton, NY – On October 24, in the early morning hours, a devastating fire broke out at a Canton kennel where dozens of dogs with the No Dogs Left Behind rescue organization were held. According to the Canton Fire Department, the fire killed all the dogs who were being held at the Maple Ridge Kennels located at 1734 State Highway 68.
In a release, the fire department said:
Firefighters were met with heavy fire in the kennel building. Unfortunately, due to the volume of fire, the animals housed in the building perished. The property housed the No Dogs Left Behind operation.
It is unclear how many dogs died in the blaze, but there are unconfirmed reports that the number is 40.
Just this week, the organization let followers know that they had taken in dogs from overseas.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
