Dothan, AL – A devoted dog is being credited for helping to save her owner’s life. The Lhasa-Apso, Kismet Litze, was “relentless” in her efforts to let Retha Cobb’s husband, Jerry, know that something was amiss after Retha fell outside their home earlier this month.
As reported by WTVY News, Cobb hit her head but did not let her family know. Later in the day her head began hurting and she lost consciousness. Her husband was in another room and had no idea that Retha was in danger. But Kismet ensured that Jerry knew of the problem and thanks to her efforts, Retha was discovered and taken in for emergency care.
After undergoing emergency surgery, Retha regained consciousness, but she had to have a second surgery after suffering a second brain bleed.
Her family is hopeful that she will recover, and they know that little Kismet is the reason she is here today. Retha’s daughter, Aimee Cobb Smith, tells the news agency that Kismet was meant to be her mom’s companion, describing Retha’s reaction when she first met the pup:
”When she saw the dog, she immediately said ‘She is my kismet. She is my destiny.’ We didn’t think much of it, except if it hadn’t been for the dog, we would not have been alerted to mom’s condition.”
The family, and Kismet, is anxious to have Retha back home again soon.
