Evansville, Indiana – This week, a cat named Betty passed away. Betty rose to fame after her owner, 14 News Meteorologist Jeff Lyons, broadcast the weather with her in his arms in 2020.
On Tuesday, Lyons publicly announced Betty’s death, letting his Facebook followers know that she passed away in his arms that morning:
Some sad news. Betty passed away peacefully in my arms this morning. When she appeared at our window 16 years ago, I never would have guessed how much joy she would bring to not only our family, but to her fans around the world. This pic was from her first time on TV with me when we broadcast from home during the pandemic in 2020.
Lyons commented about Betty’s ability to bring joy to people during the dark days of Covid lockdowns:
I am so happy that we could share Betty to bring some smiles during that dark time. She was a great cat, and we will miss her deeply. There will never be another one quite like Betty.
Betty had her own Instagram page with over 11,000 followers.
She will be missed. Rest in peace, Betty.
