Nassau County, New York – This week, 66 badly neglected chickens, including 60 juveniles, were rescued from a home where first responders went to fight a kitchen fire. According to Humane Long Island, the conditions in the home led to the chickens being rescued and a man being arrested and charged:
The chickens are suffering from emaciation, dehydration, and alopecia. Charred animal bones were also found on the property. Victor Xu, 44, was arrested and charged with 66 counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance.
