Orleans County, New York – Last week, a welfare check led to the seizure of 58 dogs from a home described as “unsanitary” inside. According to Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Greater Rochester responded to the residence on Murdock Road in Yates to ensure the well-being of the dogs on the property.
Officials found conditions concerning enough that dozens of dogs were removed and taken to the shelter for care. In a release, the animal welfare agency said:
The Animal Emergency Response Team was activated to support the operation, including the safe removal of animals, documentation of conditions, and coordination of transport. In total, 58 dogs were humanely removed from the home and transported to Lollypop Farm, where they will receive comprehensive veterinary evaluations and ongoing care.
Reno DiDomenico, vice president of humane law enforcement for Lollypop Farms, said:
“Talking to the owner of the house, she allowed us in and we saw a number of dogs inside the house — the house was unsanitary, there was a strong odor of ammonia.”
As reported by WROC News, the home was well known to officials because of prior calls to the property. The investigation remains ongoing.
