16 Shelter Dogs, Being Transported From Texas To Wisconsin, Survive Frightening Rollover Crash

Homeless dogs on a trek from Austin, Texas, to a Washington County, Wisconsin, animal shelter survived a frightening rollover crash on New Year’s Eve. According to Big Bend Fire Department, their crew responded to the I-43 accident at 7:55 a.m. and found a single-vehicle cargo van that had rolled over with caged dogs inside.

The fire department wrote:

“Upon arrival, there were 16 dogs that were being transported in a cargo van from Austin, Texas to a Washington County Animal Shelter. All 16 dogs were checked and had no apparent injuries.”

The Washington County Humane Society welcomed the crash survivors and updated Facebook followers about their condition, writing:

“The dogs were en route to our facility from a shelter in Texas when their van had a terrible accident. Great care was taken by the van’s driver, first responders and WCHS staff to check the dogs for injuries and bring them to WCHS.
The dogs are a little shaken but otherwise in good condition. Several are ready for adoption and the others will be ready in a few days. The driver is also doing well and was reunited with her puppy.”

Reminding everyone that the dogs will need loving homes:

“After a long bumpy journey, the dogs are shaking it off and adding it to their list of adventures. They are ready to begin 2022 in the loving care of their new families. If now is the right time to adopt, visit the shelter. These beautiful dogs promise to return your love tenfold.”

The driver of the van was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Waukesha Sheriff’s Department.
