Boundary County, Idaho – A large, $15,000 reward is being offered for information about the illegal killing of a grizzly bear near the Idaho-Montana border. Someone fatally shot the federally protected bear in late October north of Perkins Lake.
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, on October 28 staff received a mortality signal from the collar of the female bear. An investigation determined the grizzly was “shot in a manner indicating it was not a threat to the shooter.”
In December, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said a reward of up to $7,000 was being offered, in addition to a $700 reward offering from Idaho’s Citizens Against Poaching. An additional $7,300 is being offered by the Center for Biological Diversity.
A joint investigation is underway. Anyone with information about this case should call the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service using the FWS TIPs line at 1-844-FWS-TIPS (1-844-397-8477), or https://www.fws.gov/wildlife-crime-tips, or call the CAP Hotline at 1-800-632-5999 or visit the CAP website at citizensagainstpoaching.org.
