Greenville, South Carolina – For 184 days, a special needs dog named Ada called the Greenville Humane Society home. The shelter attempted to secure an appropriate foster home, or forever home, for the senior, blind dog, but their efforts fell flat.
Recently, the facility made a heartbreaking statement about Ada’s fate, writing:
PUPDATE, PLEASE READ: Transparency is incredibly important to our organization, as is protecting the hearts of the people who make our mission possible. Our team made the heartbreaking decision to give Ada the peace she so desperately needed. She passed over the rainbow bridge peacefully with people who loved her. We know this is difficult news, especially for those who had come to love and advocate for Ada.
Further explaining their decision:
After 184 days in our care and multiple efforts to find a foster or adoptive home where she could truly thrive, we ultimately had to make this decision based on her quality of life. Despite the love and care she received, Ada was spending far too much of her time frightened and on high alert, with very few moments when she was able to truly relax and feel at peace.
In early May, National Animal News attempted to assist with the adoption process for Ada by writing an article on her behalf. It is heartbreaking to know that the efforts failed.

I am so very sad for this Beautiful Dog. I did not get to read her story but if I wokeed there I would have taken her home myself. I have Rescued SEVEN Fom the Streets & still looking for more to put on my Farm ! I LOVE DOGS WAAAAY MORE THAN PEOPLE & CHOOSE TO SAVE THEIR LIVES FIRST & FOREMOST !!!
This sad story describes the reality of the human species – most of them are stupid, selfish and enjoy hurting or killing some poor creature more than they do helping one, especially a special needs. They dump unwanted pets in the trash, it never occurs to them to spay/neuter. They aren’t much better to their kids – they’re on their cell phones instead of spending time with their children showing them nature and how to take good care of the world they will inherit.
I’ve seen enough to know this is all true.
