Cocke County, Tennessee – A Tennessee man is facing a felony animal cruelty charge for killing his dog with plans to eat it. According to sources, Eddie McCoig was witnessed killing his dog in late May.
Deputies responded to a home in Newport and learned the man had shot his dog, skinned the dog, placed the dog into a cooler, and admitted that he intended to eat the large breed dog.
As reported by KRCR News, deputies went to the 45-year-old man’s home and he admitted to killing the dog, slitting its throat and placing the body in a cooler. The man consented to letting the deputies open a red cooler where the deceased dog was being stored.
“I told Eddie that I was there to investigate the alleged killing of a dog and then the dog had been skinned,” the officer wrote in the warrant. “Eddie stated (he did shoot his dog, slit its throat, skin it and was going to eat it.)” the warrant states.
McCoig was booked into the Cocke County Jail for felony aggravated animal cruelty.
