Westchester County, New York – A woman is facing charges for abandoning her severely injured dog in Yonkers near Oakland Cemetery. According to prosecutors, 60-year-old Anita Martin of Yonkers abandoned the dog, Frankie, on November 21.
The year-old dog had been tied to a gate at the Saint John’s Cemetery, and he was not found and rescued for hours. Frankie’s neck had a huge gash, and he had other signs of neglect, including being malnourished.
Frankie had to undergo surgery to repair his damaged neck, but he has since recovered. SPCA Westchester said:
His tail never stops wagging 🥹 Frankie is a true testament to resilience, strength, and unwavering positivity. After being cruelly dumped in Yonkers with a severe cut to his throat, Frankie endured unimaginable pain. Yet through it all, he never lost his joyful spirit and faith in people. Fortunately, the SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit arrested Frankie’s owner. Now that this sweet 1-year-old mix has made a full recovery, he’s officially ready to find his forever home!
Martin was arrested and charged after the public came forward with a case-breaking tip following the release of surveillance images. She has pleaded not guilty to her charges and is due back in court on February 23.
