Houston, Texas – The cries of a cruelly discarded puppy led the authorities to a suitcase dumped in a Channelview-area park. On Monday, a good Samaritan heard the whimpering puppy and got help.
The Houston SPCA said:
A trunk was discovered in a Channelview-area park after a Good Samaritan reported that he could hear a puppy crying inside. The German Shepherd puppy, only 9 weeks old, was safely rescued by one of our Animal Cruelty Investigators and is now in our care, receiving the compassion and medical attention they need.
The Harris County Sheriff recounted the call for assistance, writing:
Today, in East Harris County, District 3 Deputy K. Moore responded to a call about a suspicious package.
Upon arrival, he discovered a closed, locked suitcase. As he carefully approached, he heard something heartbreaking—a puppy crying from inside.
Without hesitation, Deputy Moore opened the suitcase and immediately began caring for the frightened puppy.
It is utterly shocking that someone could lock this beautiful shepherd puppy in a suitcase and abandon her.
The Houston SPCA urges the public to report cases of suspected animal cruelty:
If you ever suspect animal cruelty, please report it at 713-869-7722 and submit photos or videos at houstonspca.org/animal-cruelty to help us take action.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reiterated the request:
“This could have ended very differently. Acts of animal cruelty are serious, and we will continue to take them seriously. I’m grateful for Deputy Moore’s quick action and compassion.
If you see or suspect animal cruelty, please report it.”
