Lane County, Oregon – An elderly woman’s dog is being hailed a hero after staying by the woman’s side when she fell in a wooded area of Lane County. According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the 82-year-old woman, Karen Joyce Davis, was reported missing on December 29 in the Warthen Road area west of Elmira.
Davis was accompanied by her blue heeler cattle dog, Cami, when she disappeared.
The authorities updated the December 29 missing person post on Facebook to let considered individuals following the case know that Davis had been found, and that Cami was responsible for keeping her warm, and alerting deputies to her location.
In a social media post, the sheriff’s office explains:
Davis was found late on December 29th in rough terrain past the dead end of a forested road in the area. Her dog, Cami, kept her warm and signaled to Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue volunteers as they searched the area.
Davis was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated and treated for hypothermia. The sheriff’s office acknowledged Cami’s good deed, writing:
