Detroit, Michigan – An elderly, 14-year-old dog named Duke was cruelly betrayed by the people who were supposed to be there for him through the entirety of his life. According to Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, Duke’s owners put him outside when he got sick and called animal control to report him as a stray.
In a social media post, the dog rescue organization explains:
Can you imagine not feeling too well and being a 14-year-old senior dog in a home with your family who promised to love and care for you when suddenly they put you outside and called the police animal control department to report you as a stray? And then when an officer arrived and saw you continuing to try to go into your house the family who you loved dearly denied knowing you.
The Eastpointe Police Animal Control Division scanned Duke for a microchip and found one registered to the people who reported him as a “stray.” It quickly became apparent that Duke was seriously ill – after being transported to an emergency veterinarian he was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and he has some “concerning bloodwork.”
Fortunately, Duke’s family is expected to face legal repercussions for abandoning their dog. The rescue group writes:
We know that the City of Eastpointe has ZERO TOLERANCE for animal neglect/abandonedment/abuse and we are confident that there will be serious legal consequences for Duke’s abandonment.

Such lowlives…it’s tragic that Duke got stuck with them as his “family.” I hope they get justice good and hard.
