Dekalb County, GA – In mid-September, a man dragged two dogs behind a car and then drove away, leaving one dead and another severely injured. Today, video footage from a surveillance camera at the Redan Recreation Center in Lithonia has been released with the hopes that the driver can be identified and charged.
The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office says the man backed out of the parking lot, apparently trying to prevent the camera from capturing his license plate number. The video from Sept. 13 was enhanced by the FBI and just released to the public with the hope that someone will come forward with the information necessary to make an arrest.
The dogs dragged behind the car had a rope around their necks. One dog, a black mixed breed, died and another, a brindle puppy, suffered severe injuries and was taken to the Dekalb County Animal Services facility for care.
The vehicle in the video is believed to be a 2008 to 2012 Chevrolet Malibu 4-door sedan. Anyone with information is asked to contact the DeKalb County Animal Enforcement tip line at 404-294-2939.
