Los Angeles County, CA – A mountain lion was shot and killed after attacking a five-year-old child at Malibu Creek State Park on Sunday. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the big cat grabbed the child by the head at a family picnic and ran off with him.
Adults at the family gathering chased after the mountain lion, causing the cat to drop the boy. The big cat ran up a tree and stayed there until rangers arrived and shot it after determining that it was “a threat to public safety.”
The child was flown to Northridge Hospital Medical Center for care; he has since been released with “significant but non-life-threatening injuries.”
