Orlando, FL – In 2005, an adorable kitten was adopted from a Florida animal shelter. Through a series of sad life events, the now 19-year-old cat, Peaches, wound up once again at the Orange County Animal Services facility.
Shelter photographer Albert Harris shared Peaches’ sad story on Monday, explaining how the elderly cat came to be in the shelter’s care again:
2 days ago our officers would respond to a call from a citizen that a cat was laying down in front of her door for the past couple of hours & hadn’t moved since then. Once they arrived they would end up obtaining Peaches safely & took her in to the shelter. Since Peaches had a microchip we were able to contact the owner.
Shelter staff learned that Peaches went to her adoptive guardian’s mother after a messy divorce and at some point, Peaches was lost. The man was contacted by staff, and he told them that he still was not in a position to take Peaches in. The man, and his children, came to the facility to wish Peaches a tearful good-bye.
The poignant social media post ends, “she is affectionate & was a pro cuddler when we picked her up from her kennel. Now we want to emphasize a cold dark kennel is NO place to spend the last moments of your life alone.”
Fortunately, Peaches’ story made its way to the right people, and she has since been pulled from the facility – in safe hands and out of the lonely kennel.
May the twilight of your life be filled with love and cuddles sweet Peaches.
