Davis County, Utah – Nearly two dozen rabbits were abandoned near a trailhead in Davis County. The rabbits were captured and taken to Animal Care of Davis County, who issued a call for help because of the influx of animals.
The Humane Society of Utah stepped up to take in nine of the 20 rabbits, who are now in quarantine for a two-week period of time to ensure they are free from disease. The animal welfare agency broke down the cost associated with the extended care for the abandoned rabbits, writing:
This means their stay at our shelter is extended from an average of 6 days to 14 plus, which increases the strain on our resources.
Caring for each rabbit costs $30 per day. The total cost for their quarantine period is an additional $3,750! We urgently need your help to cover these expenses and continue providing top-notch care for all our animals.
Donations can be made directly to the shelter here.
